High potential and gifted education

Some students learn more quickly and easily than others and may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership, or sport. At our school, we recognise these strengths early and nurture them with engaging lessons and activities designed to help advanced learners grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

We provide classroom-level support for High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) to challenge and engage advanced learners every day. Our teachers plan rich, differentiated lessons that extend thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills within the regular classroom. This includes:

  • Flexible grouping to allow students to work with peers who have similar interests or strengths
  • Open-ended tasks that encourage deeper investigation and original thinking
  • Opportunities for students to take leadership roles and explore areas of personal passion
  • Adjusted pacing so students can move through content at a speed that suits them
  • Access to additional resources and activities tailored to higher-level learning needs

These classroom-level strategies ensure all gifted students receive ongoing support and opportunities to thrive as part of our inclusive learning community.

Across our school

We are committed to identifying and supporting high potential and gifted students across all year levels. Our whole-school approach includes:

  • Regular monitoring and identification processes to recognise students’ strengths early
  • Providing specialist programs, workshops, and extension activities that complement classroom learning
  • Encouraging collaboration between teachers, families, and external experts to support advanced learners
  • Creating leadership and enrichment opportunities through clubs, competitions, and extracurricular activities
  • Offering professional development for staff to build expertise in gifted education and differentiation
  • Ensuring an inclusive environment where every student’s potential is valued and nurtured

Through this comprehensive support, we help gifted learners to reach their full potential and thrive in a supportive school community.

Across NSW

Our school connects with broader education programs and initiatives to provide advanced opportunities for gifted learners. This includes:

  • Participation in regional and state HPGE programs and events
  • Access to selective and enrichment programs offered by the Department of Education
  • Opportunities for students to engage in state-wide competitions, academic challenges, and leadership forums
  • Collaboration with other schools and organisations to share resources and expertise
  • Supporting families to access specialised services and pathways for high potential and gifted students

By linking to these state-wide programs, we ensure our gifted learners benefit from a wide range of experiences and support beyond the classroom and school community.
